Florescence emerged during a two-month immersive art residency at Les Dominicains de Haute-Alsace, developed in collaboration with sound composer Philippe Racz. Rooted in the landscapes surrounding the Vosges mountains near Guebwiller, the project unfolds as a fulldome audiovisual composition shaped through wandering, field recording, and volumetric capture.
The cliffs, dense forests, and fleeting wildflowers of the Vosges became both material and atmosphere for the work. Moving through these landscapes without fixed destinations gradually revealed overlooked paths, hidden clearings, and traces of places that seemed suspended outside ordinary time. Some locals described certain sites as telluric, carrying a lingering sense of stillness left behind by the sanctuaries and monasteries once rooted there.
My explorations often carried an undercurrent reminiscent of Jean-Baptiste Grenouille in the novel Perfume by Patrick Süskind : a yearning to escape the heavy imprint of human activity and find spaces where nature asserts its primacy. The ordered geometry of vineyards and the edges of urban expansion stood in contrast to the deeper forest, where the landscape appeared less controlled and more elusive. Beyond the beaten paths, the environment seemed to reclaim its own rhythms and textures.
The visual fabric of Florescence is constructed from point cloud scans captured throughout these explorations. Neither fully material nor entirely abstract, the scans oscillate between documentation and dissolution, preserving fragments of terrain, vegetation, and atmosphere while allowing them to drift toward something more unstable and ephemeral. Through these volumetric landscapes, memory and geography begin to blur together.
Rather than preserving or romanticizing the past, Florescence lingers within the fragile relationship between human presence and the persistence of the natural world. The work searches for moments of quiet resonance still embedded within the landscape: in the contours of a cliffside, the movement of foliage, or the silence surrounding a forgotten path.
